Biography
Journalist with five years of experience in reporting. I love field reporting and exploring various formats of storytelling. In my career, I have demonstrated skills in hardcore field reporting, research, and in-depth reportage. Covering the Covid-19 pandemic, I have written close to 100 stories exploring multiple angles on science, data, research, human interest, and people’s plight. Produced exclusive stories on Covid-19 for the special Sunday editions of The New Indian Express on several occasions. Authored various impact stories on tribals and development issues that caught the attention of those in corridors of power, including Chief Minister MK Stalin. My stories changed the lives of many families from the marginalized sections by villages getting buses, tribals getting houses worth Rs 1 crore, making the MGNREGA scheme reach villages and tribal schools without a principal getting one, to name a few. I have also shown skill in extensive reportage on medicine, science, and public health. In a notable story, I had written about the uses of Tocilizumab drug in the treatment of Covid, in the very early stages of pandemic, even before the drug was used in Tamil Nadu. Interviewed eminent scientific personalities regarding Covid, including Dr. Chandrakanth Laharia and Dr. Prabhdeep Kaur of ICMR. Explored on post-Covid effects in people, methods adopted by hospitals to treat patients, the efficacy of antibody testing, sero-surveillance among other topics. Exploring behind the scenes of Tamil Nadu's mega vaccination drive, I brought out the labor issues of salary payment and job termination among Covid-19 doctors and nurses in Tamil Nadu. Broke the exclusive story on high-level meetings held to whether run or close Amma Mini clinics. Also as an environmentally sound reporter, I have written on chemical pollution in lakes and rivers of Chennai and encroachments along with water bodies. Some of these stories have been taken cognizance by the National Green Tribunal. Highlighting a few stories, the death of hundred fish in Thiruneermalai Lake due to water pollution; Oil leak in Kosasthalaiyar River, Raw sewage being dumped into storm drains, and functioning of an illegal waste incinerator in Chitlapakkam among other sensitive issues. During my career, I have also produced several impactful civic stories which the government on many occasions took cognizance of and have addressed the issues. In 2019, contributed to the ‘Bad Roads’ package for The New Indian Express, bringing out the bad road conditions in the city. Following my stories, the Chennai Corporation on several occasions jumped into action to fix the roads. As a civic reporter, I have written on garbage clearance, solid waste management, and waste segregation. I not just highlighted the issues but also produced solution-based stories on how effective waste segregation can take place. I am also known for my reportage of the plight of relocated slum dwellers in the city. Extensively written on their lack of education, access to civic amenities, and loss of livelihood. Along with newspaper reporting, I have lately performed additional roles in video editing, making video news bulletins, making video documentaries, and co-handling social media handles. Produced up to four video documentaries and more than ten video stories. When the whole State was inside its house, I dared to visit a government hospital during the Covid the second wave to make a video story to bring out the plight of people waiting for seven hours to get a hospital bed. During my career, I also have developed highly placed sources in government departments to get exclusive and breaking news. Among circles, I am known to be a dedicated and resourceful reporter in my areas of coverage, who can efficiently work meeting deadlines and turning out copies with good substance
