Pat Robert LARUBI is an independent investigative journalist, a professional photographer, television news and documentary film producer. A mental health advocate, an award-winning disability and human rights activist with a focus on public safety, inclusion and equality. In 2018, Pat scooped an award for his outstanding and exemplary positive portrayal of persons with disability in the media organized by the East African Centre for Disability Law and Policy. Winner of 2017, 3rd place best portrait photographer - Ugandan Press Photo Awards and DW Akademie Fellow. He worked as a junior lecturer, at UMCAT School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Communications Officer at Mental Health Uganda before venturing into activism, politics and farming. However, advocacy has been very integral in Pat Robert Larubi’s life journey. He has used his influence as a journalist to be a voice for special groups whose interests are always sidelined. At the same time, he has endeavored to speak out against rights abuses and injustice against the media, persons with disabilities and children like its exhibited in his mind blowing documentary “The Nodding Horror” showcasing the plight of children battling nodding syndrome in Northern Uganda. For being called the “Black Albino” Pat has dedicated much of his time to creating awareness, promoting and protecting the rights of Persons with Albinism. It is this enthusiasm to champion rights of People with Albinism that led him to create Pats Journal - The Albinism News Digest, a digital online news platform breaking myth on issues related to – stigma, discrimination, ritual sacrifice and sexual abuse of persons with albinism in Uganda. He’s the founder of the Northernews Wire and The Street Ledger.
