An experienced mother-tongue English journalist based in Munich, currently writing and editing for dpa and the Max Planck Institute, and contributing to publications in the UK and Ireland. Three decades experience as a news journalist, including 25 years with the BBC, leading news gathering teams in war zones and other challenging environments, including, between 2004-2009 as bureau chief in Baghdad. Finished BBC career as online Education reporter, and then spent four years instructing journalists from the BBC, ITV News, and CNN to prepare them for working in war zones and areas affected by natural disasters. Also a published poet. Holds joint Irish/UK citizenship.
