Rachel Barnes started reporting at Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo in January 2017. At the student newspaper there she was News Editor and then Editor in Chief. She then transferred to California State University, Long Beach where she joined the Daily Forty-Niner as Arts and Life Editor. She would later go on to be Managing Editor for the publication. She now works as a local editor for Patch.com covering Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Long Beach.
