Citizen Matters

Citizen Matters is a civic media platform in India, founded in 2008 by Meera K and Subramaniam Vincent under Oorvani Media. As a nonprofit organization operating under the Oorvani Foundation, it focuses on hyperlocal urban issues and aims to enhance community-driven journalism through grants and donations. The platform addresses local civic journalism gaps by highlighting governance, infrastructure, and marginalized communities. It employs participatory storytelling, combining citizen contributions with professional editorial oversight. Citizen Matters has expanded its reach from Bengaluru to several major cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, and Ahmedabad. Its offerings include explainer journalism, solutions journalism, citizen journalism, and in-depth reports on systemic urban challenges. The platform engages a diverse audience of civically engaged residents, activists, and policymakers, fostering a feedback loop for grassroots impact.
