Biography

Raqib Hameed Naik is a Kashmiri journalist and founder of Hindutva Watch, a research project that documents the rise of Hindu nationalism and the persecution of religious minorities in India. The project has been described by The Washington Post as one of India's only and most comprehensive real-time datasets of hate crimes and hate speeches. Born and raised in Kashmir, he has nearly a decade of reporting experience in politics, conflict, human rights, religious minorities, Hindu nationalism, refugees, press freedom, and environment from Kashmir, India, China, and the United States. His stories, photographs, and documentaries have appeared in Al Jazeera, The Nation Magazine, Al Jazeera Media Institute, The Defense Post, The Globe Post, Inkstick Media, Frontline Magazine, StoriesAsia, The Wire, Caravan Magazine, The Third Pole, TRT World, Firstpost, Climate Tracker and elsewhere. He is the recipient of the Aminah Assilmi Award in Media Excellence. In 2021, Thomson Foundation named him among 15 journalists worldwide for addressing the climate emergency with words and actions. For his work and expertise on Hindu nationalism, he has been featured and quoted in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, The Intercept, American Kahani, BBC, Daily Express UK, Tech Crunch, and others. He has delivered numerous talks and lectures at various events and universities, including the U.S. Congressional briefing on Kashmir held on Capitol Hill, the International Religious Freedom Summit, Harvard University, MIT, University of Maryland, Ryerson University and McGill University. Currently, he lives in Washington DC.
