Biography

K Raveendran is Managing Editor of Dubai-based Arabian Post. One of the senior-most business journalists to have worked in the Gulf, he has been based in Dubai since 1994, when he joined Khaleej Times as Business Editor. The column AGENDA was launched in Khaleej Times in 2001. It was the first column of its kind, dealing with local issues in an English newspaper. Until then, newspapers carried only columns provided by international news syndicates. Ever since its launch AGENDA has been very popular with readers and was rated as one of the best columns appearing in the newspaper. When he left Khaleej Times, the column was shifted to Gulf News Raveendran was awarded the 2004 DSF Journalism award for the best international writing on Dubai Shopping Festival for an article in the Daily Star-International Herald Tribune's placeCityBeirut edition. Prior to joining Khaleej Times, worked as News Editor (1989-94) and Officiating Editor (1992-94) with The Observer (published from Delhi and Bombay), specialising in business and finance. Observer, launched by Reliance Group, India's largest corporate house, is considered a watershed in the history of business journalism in India as it introduced a new concept of reporting, forcing others such as The Economic Times and the Business Standard to change. Before joining Observer, Raveendran worked as Deputy News Editor with Patriot, published from Delhi, edited by Edatata Narayanan, one of India's greatest editors ever. While in Patriot, Raveendran taught journalism at an institute run by the newspaper. During a career spanning over 25 years, beginning as a correspondent with India's first economic news agency in 1975, trained at least a 100 journalists. He also worked as a freelance radio newscaster with All India Radio, Delhi.
