ROGER L. SIMON – SHORT BIO Roger Lichtenberg Simon is a prize-winning novelist, journalist and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter. Currently he is the editor-at-large and columnist for The Epoch Times. He was the co-founder and CEO of PJ Media (formerly known as Pajamas Media), the pioneering online new media company and of PJTV, the first online television network to stream via the internet from a presidential convention. He is the author of eleven novels, seven produced screenplays and two non-fiction books. He has served as president of the West Coast branch of PEN, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Writers Guild of America. He was also on the faculty of the American Film Institute and the Sundance Institute.[1] His many journalistic articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Commentary, Real Clear Politics and City Journal, among others. Simon has also been a Hoover Institute Media Fellow. In books, he is best known for his series of the eight Moses Wine detective novels, which have been translated into over a dozen languages and won prizes from the Mystery Writers of America and the Crime Writers of Great Britain. The first Moses Wine novel was The Big Fix, made into a film starring Richard Dreyfuss for which Simon wrote the screenplay, bringing him to Hollywood. Among his many screenplays are Bustin' Loose (with Richard Pryor), Scenes from a Mall (with Bette Midler and Woody Allen) and the Paul Mazursky-directed Enemies, A Love Story, for which Simon was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. A Better Life, for which Roger wrote the story, was released in 2011 with its lead actor, Damien Bichir, also nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award. Simon also directed the independent feature Prague Duet, starring Gina Gershon and based on a screenplay he wrote with his wife Sheryl Longin (Dick). His memoir—Turning Right at Hollywood and Vine: The Perils of Coming Out Conservative in Tinseltown —was published by Encounter Books in February 2009. The Party Line – a stage play written in collaboration with Sheryl Longin and set in Stalinist Russia and contemporary Amsterdam – was produced by the Beverly Hill Playhouse and published by The New Criterion in November 2012. I Know Best: How Moral Narcissism Is Undermining Our Republic, If It Hasn’t Already – a book of political theory and psychology -- was published in 2016 by Encounter and serialized by Commentary. The GOAT, a novel published in 2019, is Simon’s most recent book and deemed by reviewers his best. He is currently working on a non-fiction book—The Southbound Train—about the migration from blue to red states to be published by Encounter in 2023. Simon – the only person to be profiled favorably in one lifetime by Mother Jones and The National Review - has also been a public speaker, speaking on the topics of the effects of political change on people’s lives, Hollywood and politics, and the rise of New Media. He has appeared on television on the Larry Kudlow Show, Fox and Friends, CNBC, Fox Business and others and is a frequent guest on the Hugh Hewitt Radio Show. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College (BA) and the Yale School of Drama (MFA – playwriting and dramatic literature).
