I am an award-winning journalist who has worked for decades as an investigative reporter, feature writer, editor and photographer. I live to tell compelling stories about people and places in Wyoming and beyond. I’m the Wyoming reporter for Reuters news agency and a frequent contributor to The New York Times. My work has appeared in National Geographic, The Chicago Tribune, U.S. News & World Report, Vancouver Sun, Yellowstone Quarterly and news outlets throughout Montana and Wyoming. I am an active member of the Society of American Travel Writers. I won first place in the 2024 Society of Professional Journalists Top of the Rockies Awards for small newsroom beat reporting for my coverage of Yellowstone Park. I’m also editor of Points West, the quarterly membership magazine of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. I worked previously as the Wyoming bureau chief for the Billings Gazette, Montana’s largest daily newspaper. I served as managing editor for WyoFile, Wyoming’s premier nonprofit news outlet for people, places and policy. As founding editor of the Yellowstone Gate news and information website, I reach a global readership of curious travelers and engaged locals who are passionate about Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks and surrounding public lands.
