Biography
My professions and interests have followed each other across multiple disciplines—broadly science, business, and writing. I love being a generalist, and writing is my way of unifying what I know and think about the world. 💢 As a marketer, I’ve helped scale the world's top brands across industries and demographics, from FMCG, reaching >99% of India, to journalism and B2B SaaS, sold to the top %. I’ve worked with Atlan, Soroco, Nanonets, Docsumo, Needl.ai, Tide, Ariel, The Ken, and The Caravan on everything storytelling and growth—think brand, positioning, content, campaigns, SEO and technical writing, scripts, videos, and also leading GTM across offline and online channels. I believe in combining human creativity with the right tech. Before my MBA at IIM Calcutta, I built automation to flag bad ads at Amazon. I’m a BITS Pilani, Goa grad in electronics engineering. 🧠 Some major wins? — I helped launch Tide Pods in India. — Created hundreds of thousands of organic views through viral campaigns and videos for Atlan — Made The Caravan pivot to subscription journalism in 2019, just as that market was taking off — I'm famous on Twitter but mistaken for long jumper Anju Bobby George (go there to find out why!) — My time as a programmer + selling P&G's $250mn brands to 80+mn households taught me how to break down complex problems but also what makes people who they are, which informs my writing now. — Did I mention I have a book about my life and Indian society coming out soon? 😄 💢 I am the writer behind the “The Sanjana Effect," — I wrote about how a generation of Indian girls was named after Aishwarya Rai’s iconic 1992 Pepsi ad. And the essay went bonkers viral. I analyze how society, tech, and people affect each other in my writing, which appears in The Caravan, ThePrint, VICE, NDTV, Fifty Two, and other leading publications (including my website—www.ramachandranesk.in—it’s a visual treat, suited for long reads). All of this led to a book deal—out Feb 1, 2025 (!!). The book tracks the ‘90s-born elite Indian, moving from an offline life to a hyper-connected world with 24x7 crises, new forms of media, work, and self-expression, and the clash of values & identities that came along with this rapid societal evolution. What do so many competing influences do to the Indian psyche? 📚 I hope you’re as excited to read it as I am to release it. Follow @ramachandranesk across platforms.
