Biography

Hi! I'm Sasha Ray, a lifelong writer and budding journalist trying to find my footing in this grand world of news writing! I have a strong command of arts terminology after longstanding immersion in the world of performing and visual arts as a dancer, designer, choral singer, avid concert attendee, art appreciator, rampant listener of many different styles of music, and of course writer. Although a fair amount of my past published works have centered around the arts, I am interested in other types of journalism, namely legal, medical/healthcare, and under topics regarding race, religion, and special areas of politics. I am also an adept editor, copywriter, photographer, and proofreader. I really enjoy feature and narrative writing and pursue both whenever possible.

Company Info

The Argus-Press

The Argus is the largest student newspaper in Northern Ontario with a weekly circulation of over 2,500. Founded in 1966, The Argus has covered issues important to students at Lakehead University and in Thunder Bay for nearly half a century. We are published by the Lakehead University Student Union and are funded through the student activity fee. We report stories and events that are relevant to students at Lakehead University and Thunder Bay, including local and international news, arts, culture, and editorials. The Argus is a member in good standing with the Canadian University Press (CUP). Our office is located on the second floor of the University Centre (UC-2014B), next to the Financial Aid office. History The Argus was first published by the Alma Mater Society of Lakehead University (the precursor to the Lakehead University Student Union). Our first issue was October 3, 1966 with editor William Inglis. Students were encouraged to vote on the name of the campus newspaper, with choices ranging from The Argus, The Aurora, The Medium, and The Thunderer. By the second issue, the results were in, and the paper was christened The Argus. If you're interested in more history about the newspaper, or reading issues dating back half a century, you are welcomed to visit us in the Argus office to peruse the archives at your leisure. We hope to digitize and publish our past issues as time goes on.
