Biography

Scott Firsing PhD has spent the last 20+ years working in the aerospace, defense, education, and political sectors. His main areas of expertise are aviation and aerospace, as well as American politics and international relations/security issues with a focus on American foreign policy and foreign power involvement in Africa. Firsing started his career at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters assisting with nuclear disarmament issues. He then lived and worked in South Africa for a decade. While there, he held several leadership roles at educational institutions and think-tanks. Firsing served as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the International Studies Department at Monash University. In addition, Firsing served as a South African Institute for International Affairs (SAIIA) Bradlow Fellow in 2012 as well as an Institute for Global Dialogue Fellow based at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Firsing was also a Director of the Aerospace Leadership Academy and the North American International School (NAIS) in Pretoria. Upon returning to the United States, Firsing has taught at the University of North Carolina, The Citadel: The Military College of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina University and the University of Denver. Firsing studied criminal justice and political science at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He received his doctorate in International Politics from UNISA in 2011. His thesis focused on United States-South Africa bilateral relations in the post-apartheid era. Firsing was a London School of Economics and Political Science Fellow and received leadership training at LSE in 2012 via their Programme for African Leadership (Pfal). Firsing is a known expert in the training aircraft and flight simulation market. He owns Scott Sky Advisors, an aerospace consultancy in Austin, Texas. Firsing has served on the Board of the University Aviation Association (UAA) and currently serves on the Board of the National Flight Training Alliance (NFTA). Also an International Relations expert, Firsing is a Senior Research Associate at the Institute for Global Dialogue and serves on the Advisory Board of the World Affairs Council in Austin. Firsing, a Republican, has run for public office, most recently in 2024 for the Texas House of Representatives for District 47 (Austin area) while campaigning for other Republicans like President Donald Trump and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
