Biography

Shazia Majid is a Norwegian journalist based in Oslo. She is a columnist and a senior investigative reporter at VG, Norway’s largest daily newspaper. She has worked extensively within data-driven business journalism exploring the intersection of public funding and private companies, and has won the SKUP Award for excellence in investigative journalism in 2020. She has also won the SKUP diploma in both 2017 and 2018. In 2019, her first non-fiction book, Ut av skyggene (Stepping Out of the Shadows) was published. The book won 2020 Booksellers award for best non-fiction, and was shortlisted for Norway’s most prestigious literary awards, Brageprisen and The Literary Critics Award. The widely acclaimed book is the first to tell the comprehensive story of the first immigrant women of color in Norway. Shazia Majid was awarded a fellowship at Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at University of Oxford in 2020. Her study at Oxford was published in 2021 and exposed the significant underrepresentation of ethnic minority women in Norway's leading newspapers. Majid appears on national news channels, radio channels and podcasts as a commentator on regular basis. Majid was born and raised in Norway by parents of Pakistani origin. She holds a degree in business administration, as well as a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Oslo Metropolitan University.
