Biography

Simon Schuster joined MLive as senior political reporter in 2022, covering the governor's office, enterprise and investigative projects. Prior to joining MLive, Simon spent three years as executive director of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, a nonpartisan nonprofit tracking the influence of money in Michigan politics through investigative journalism and education. He previously worked as a freelance reporter for newspapers such as The Washington Post and The Detroit News. A Michigan native, Simon received a bachelor's and master of public policy degrees from Michigan State University, where he was a policy fellow at the Institute for Public Policy and Social Research from 2017 to 2019. Outside of politics his other journalistic loves include reader tips, the Python library Pandas and chronicling oddballs, outsiders and underdogs. You can catch him most weekends either in Detroit or backpacking and camping in northern Michigan. He lives in Lansing.
