A New York-based journalist from India, Surbhi is a recent graduate from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She has four years of professional newsroom experience at The Indian Express, a top national daily in India, and has written in a variety of formats, from breaking news to magazine covers. She reports on the intersection of politics and culture, internet culture, creator economy, and South Asian arts and culture. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she reported on the online delivery and the ecommerce landscape in India, retail trends, lockdown life, and public initiatives in response to the crisis. At Columbia University, apart from journalism, she took courses on jazz legend John Coltrane, politics of modern Middle Eastern art, and the history of rumor and fake news.
