Biography
Sydney A. Charles joined KSEE24 and CBS47 in July 2024. Born in Los Angeles, she returns to California after spending two years producing, reporting and anchoring for KXLY TV News in Spokane, Washington. While living in the Lilac City, she covered the University of Idaho murders case, catastrophic wildfires and stories of survival from families in local communities. With an emphasis of breaking news, Sydney was able to immerse herself into the community, highlighting stories that matter. Before packing her bags and moving to the Pacific Northwest, she worked for several media outlets in early college at U.C. Irvine while studying dance, journalism and criminology. In between ballet classes and interviews, she created her own independent podcast, and her own broadcast show that secured a Regional CASE award for excellence in communications. She’s also a proud Trojan and holds a master’s degree in journalism from USC. During her time reporting for the university, she covered stories surrounding environmental racism in her home city of Carson, COVID-19 disparities in the LA area and the long-term impacts of workplace discrimination. She is passionate about community service and is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the National Association of Black Journalists. When she’s not in the newsroom, you will find Sydney enjoying a good cup of coffee at a café, walking her dog Pepper, playing the piano, exploring the Central Valley’s trails, or taking a ballet class somewhere.
