Biography
In 2001 Ty Clark almost lost his left left arm in a work related injury and fell victim to the Rx-opiate-drug epidemic. Several hard years later he was charged with a non-violent drug related crime, that stemmed from the disease of addiction and turned himself in to police. He said, "I knew I couldn't kick opiates on my own and needed to be locked away to fully detox. I was sick of the life I was living and saw jail as an opportunity to kick the narcotics my body was addicted to". He was eventually convicted and incarcerated in the Oklahoma D.O.C. He was given an unprecedented 20 YEAR sentence and was released in November of 2011 under a "judicial review". He's been clean since 2009. And thriving. Since his release, he has become a staple in the music and arts community of Oklahoma and joined the alt-rock band 'The Bourgeois'(pronounced "the booj-wah"). "I knew rather quickly that Zach Mobley(vocals/guitar) was the right person in this state to build a band with", he says, "not just because of similar music taste, but because of the similar drive to inspire thought provoking ideas via music". With 'The Bourgeois' Ty has played major festivals; such as, SXSW, Rocklahoma, and more. The band has supported national acts 'Eagles Of Death Metal', 'Electric 6', 'The Joy Formidable', and countless more. 'The Bourgeois' were featured in September 2016's Alternative Press Magazine(#339), Pop Matters, Speak Into My Good Eye, IMPOSE, among other publications. More info on 'The Bourgeois' at www.thebourgeoisband.com. Ty is also a session drummer at Grammy Award winning Bell Labs Studios(Norman, OK). He has taught underprivileged kids at Youth Services of Tulsa, played for Louder Than a Bomb(Tulsa Chapter) events, has toured and filled in on drums for other bands, like, Warner Brothers artists 'Stardeath And White Dwarfs', and had the privilege of filling in for the late Eric Harmon of 90's icons, 'Chainsaw Kittens', during their 2017 "reunion show". "I have no words for how much of an honor that entire week [of rehearsals leading to the show] had been", Ty said. "It's a compliment to have even been asked, but I dropped everything to go play that show for my friends and fellow drummer more than any other reason". Finally, Ty Clark is an activist and a voice in drug abuse and criminal justice reform. He is a freelance-music writer for The Tulsa Voice. He has spoken at schools in Tulsa, given interviews, written articles and aims to "inspire others the way I've been inspired", in his own words. Ty went to all of the 2016 presidential candidates rallies; even though, he can not vote and protested Donald Trump's rally - held in Tulsa at Oral Roberts University - with a shirt that said "You're All Being Lied To", a Star of David with the word "poor" on it and an American flag wrapped around his face. "Since the state of Oklahoma took away my right to vote, I have to make my voice heard in other ways", Ty said. News anchor, Will DuPree, from Tulsa caught him outside and spoke with him briefly, as well as, an Oklahoma City reporter. Ty says he received more positive, supportive and uplifting messages and comments than he did negative. He also stated that "being on the news or in the paper was not our goal at the rally. I covered my face, for God's sake. We came to protest everything he stands for, but someone pulled my flag off and here I am now talking to you, telling you what we were convicted to do: resist the rhetoric and call it out for what it is: lies. Greedy-hate based lies." Ty lives with his fiance, Katy, in Tulsa, is currently about to receive a degree in journalism and is an award-winning music video director planning to launch his own creative group. There is also a good chance you've heard him mention #Bitcoin and other "cryptocurrencies".
