Vinodh Arulappan is an award-winning investigative journalist with over 18 years of experience in print, broadcast, and digital media. His career began in 2007 as a reporter for Star Vijay TV’s crime program Kutram Nadanthathu Enna, where he delved into complex criminal cases, laying the foundation for his investigative approach to journalism. Since then, he has built a distinguished career, covering some of India's most pressing social justice issues, human rights violations, and political corruption. As a reporter at The New Indian Express, a national daily, he specialized in legal, crime, and public administration beats, breaking impactful stories on governance, law enforcement, and systemic failures. Rising through the ranks to become Chief Reporter – South Tamil Nadu, he later managed two editions of the newspaper and introduced a separate weekly supplement, Madurai Express, which focused on human interest stories and feature journalism. His contributions to The New Indian Express were recognized in 2018 when he was awarded as a Value Champion under the "Best Valued at Work Story" category. Expanding his influence in broadcast journalism, he served as Bureau Head for the Madurai region at News 7 Tamil, overseeing coverage across five southern districts. During his tenure, he was the first journalist to break the news of the sudden demise of former President and scientist APJ Abdul Kalam, a moment of national significance. Separating facts from fiction over Sengol by Thiruvaduthurai Aadheenam", published in South First, received global recognition for its in-depth analysis of a politically charged historical narrative. His career has been defined by a commitment to investigative journalism, focusing on human rights abuses, environmental degradation, caste-based discrimination, and corruption within political and corporate structures. His meticulous reporting, which includes firsthand accounts, data analysis, and extensive fieldwork, has led to groundbreaking exposés on land grabs, displacement, and systemic injustices. Beyond reporting, Vinodh has held editorial leadership roles, including Deputy News Editor at South First and Minnambalam, and Chief Reporter – South Tamil Nadu at The New Indian Express. An alumnus of PSG College of Arts & Science with an M.A. in Mass Communication, he also holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Periyar University. His professional credentials include certifications in Digital Journalism from Reuters and Tackling Disinformation during Elections from Agence France-Presse (AFP).
