Wayne Curtis is the author of “And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails,” and “The Last Great Walk: The True Story of a 1909 Walk from New York to San Francisco and Why It Matters Today.” He was a contributing editor at The Atlantic, and has freelanced for many publications, including American Scholar, New York Times, Wall St. Journal, American Archeology, The Daily Beast, Preservation, and The Smart Set. He writes frequently about travel, archeology, history, cocktails and spirits, and is currently a columnist for Garden & Gun and Imbibe, He lives in New Orleans except during the yellow fever, months when he retreats to Maine.
