Biography

Hi. I’m Üma, a freelance editorial and copy writer, blogger, editor and producer. For as far back as I can remember I’ve had a passion for communication, language and expression. I studied visual communications in college before beginning an illustrious career as a graphic designer. I worked my way up from junior designer to art director and while I loved the creative process, I secretly envied the writers and editors I worked with. As an independent marketing consultant, I was presented with the opportunity to write content for my clients, and eventually made the lateral move from visual to written communications. Now, I’m lucky to have work I love; massaging language, context and imagery into stories that build great brands. Areas of special expertise include: cycling, mountain biking, competitive cycling, fitness and wellness, and psychology. In 2010 I published my first book—BikeYoga—a comprehensive and unique approach to flexibility and recovery for cyclists. In my spare time, I continue my work on a book of creative nonfiction. I am currently accepting new copywriting and editorial clients. When I’m not writing I’m usually out riding and racing my mountain bike around the beautiful Pacific Northwest. My name is Üma.
